Case Study

Facilities Solids and Corrosion Management

Overview

Few years into the development of an unconventional oil field, an onshore operator started to see an increase in the number of leak events associated with corrosion and operational issues due to massive solid deposition resulting in significant increases in OPEX and unplanned downtime.  The operator wanted to reduce the number of events associated with corrosion and solids deposition through the implementation of a sustainable and cost-effective mitigation program.

solution
  • Reviewed and updated the existing production chemistry and corrosion monitoring program for surface facilities
  • Improved root cause failure reporting and coordinated gap analyses
  • Oversaw the scale/corrosion inhibitors, and biocide selection and validation testing program
  • Co-developed a mitigation strategy for MIC and solids deposition including chemical injection points and dosage, coatings, and material selection.
  • Provided input to the facilities maintenance program and developed SOPs for tanks and vessel cleanouts
  • Developed KPIs for chemical performance and service tracking
